Ichigo Kurosaki
Who are you?
Name: Kurosaki Ichigo
Alias: Strawberry/Kurosaki-Kun/Ichi-Nii
Age: 15
Age of Appearance:15
Gender:Male
Race/Species: Hybrid (Visored/Quincy) Ichigo is originally a human but has both Shinigami, and hollow power. He also a Gemischt Quincy that is dormant.
Character Alignment: Neutral Good
Appearance: Ichigo appears like a typical teenager and stands at just under 6 feet tall at around 5''10 and used to be quite scrawny but ever since he has become a shinigami his build has changed and become more athletic and he weighs around 64 kg.
Ichigo's most notable and stand out feature is his bright orange hair, which gains plenty of unwanted attention. His hair is always usually short, and in a spiked style that flattens a little more in front of his eyes. The spikes in his hair is just naturally how it is, unless wet. He usually doesn't fuss about his hairstyle and doesn't really do anything to it, only letting his sister cut it when she can, thus leading to the somewhat messy unkempt appearance he has.
He pretty much has a peach skin tone, and not one that has a really pale complexion, compared to others his skin tone is a little warmer. His eyes are narrow and a dark brown colour that bears a heavy scowl making him appear to be angry about everything. His facial features are well proportioned and in fact resembles that of Kaien Shiba who he is related to unbeknown to Ichigo himself.
He gives off a vibe of being moody, or uninterested. He usually doesn't realise he's doing so but it causes others to see him as unapproachable. To be around Ichigo is usually a feeling of security for his friends and he wants to keep it that way, to strangers they probably only feel threatened but it is due to his outward appearance. He has presence when in a room, he is hard to miss and draws attention probably because of how self-confident Ichigo appears and the aura he gives off being that of someone with confidence, although he is self-assured Ichigo does front a lot of it but to outsiders is convincing.
To his friends or family Ichigo wouldn't appear so distant and he can display and give off some compassion and his scowl may fade a little although it is rare of course. When in dire straits or upsetting situations Ichigo will fail to display any sadness, instead he appears to have a blank expression but it is merely one that hides his true feeling he may even force an unconvincing smile which isn't usually good and a sign he isn't himself. Ichigo is good at covering up his real emotion and on the outside is seen by others as impolite and to have an attitude but it is merely something he has got good at conveying and carving a certain image of himself to others.
Ichigo's physique is that of an athlete, he is taller than average and has longer slim legs like that of a distance runner but his shoulders are broader and his arms are stronger, more defined especially since he has trained and progressed as his body has adapted to cope with the strains of being a Substitute Shinigami.
Style/Clothing: Ichigo's dress sense is usually that of a typical teen, he usually wears casual stuff like jeans and t-shirts but they have to be tight fitting as it is what he much prefers. He does often like a slogan on shirts especially ones that conform to his age, he likes to draw attention about the homonym in his name meaning '15' and purposely wears slogans that refer back to it. If he's at school then he has to comply with wearing the standard uniform they have, it is usually different for seasons but usually consists of a grey jacket and trousers.
When he is not in his human state Ichigo's Shinigami uniform is pretty standard all black robes like what most shinigami wear. There is the difference that he has a strap across his shoulder in which to hold his oversized Zanpakuto in place.
Tattoo's/Scars/Etc: Ichigo has no tattoos sure he may have scars from many battles he's faced but none that are significant.
Personality: From a very young age Ichigo was once a kid who always smiled, he couldn't stop smiling when he was a child this was mostly due to his positive start in early childhood and his great love for his mother, Masaki. It was here that Ichigo developed his complex need to save everyone and protect them with his life. He attended a dojo in order to obtain the right skills to protect his family and from there that number of those he wanted to save grew and so he started to take more risks to ensure their safety, eventually risking his life to try and save a stranger on the edge of a riverbank.
As a teen Ichigo's personality changed dramatically after he lost his mother, he was no longer smiling for one, and he became more rough and impolite, he always appeared angry about something due to his scowl he had now obtained. Here Ichigo's personality became more complex he was cold towards others sometimes and easily gave people the brush off rather than socialising. He was in fact seen as intimidating by his classmates and many avoided him.
He became this street punk kind of kid who got into way too many fights and into trouble often. It was mainly because of the local bullies would tease him or get involved with his best friend Chad that he would stand up and fight and thus gain his reputation. He's reputation began to be known among classmates of his many fights and what trouble he got into.
Ichigo is outspoken, brave, indifferent, bored, and borderline annoyed and is usually how he acts, alternating with cocky and confrontational when fights are involved, and occasionally extremely irate. He has even said so himself that if someone would pick a fight with him, he cannot help but fight back because of his short temper. His determination is a more positive trait of his and he has a relentless need to still protect those close to him despite his impulsiveness. He implies that he doesn't care what people think of him but that might not be all that true.
Despite his temper Ichigo has demonstrated he can be compassionate to others at times and genuinely doesn't want anything to happen to those he considers a friend, his trust and respect is often earned over time and once someone has this he puts his faith in them entirely. As he's grown older his temper has subsided a little and he thinks a little more before he acts or speaks.
When with his friends Ichigo's is less guarded and he is trustful in them, he doesn't usually act rudely or insulting towards his friends, he does have the habit of being over protective of them, he knows their pasts and has made promises to protect them at all costs and displays he has care for them. He will often defend his friends and family till the end, he stands up for them believes their words and want them to feel safe. Sometimes Ichigo is less trusting of allies, he may consider them to be on his side but will be cautious, the same as when he is introduced to different and new people. He will be stand offish and only speak when spoken to, he is not so rude as to completely ignore new people and dismiss them. He will still listen to them and engage to a certain extent and over time Ichigo makes friends due to his distrusting nature it is time that lets Ichigo determine if he considers someone a friend or not.
Then there is the other side of Ichigo that being his more defensive side if new people, should they be less polite he is not afraid to speak up be it a stranger or someone he's known for a short time. He doesn't react to insults and digs made at him so well, in fact it can get you off to a terrible start with Ichigo leading him to be on his guard around you and his witty comebacks will be in full force whenever he sees fitting, he doesn't care usually and if he doesn't like someone he will say so. In front of the foes Ichigo has encounters he is usually quite hostile, his ever permanent scowl is always in place when it comes down to fights and enemies. Ichigo can appear pretty threatening if he'd like to, his hollow usually brings out his more abusive side.
Ichigo doesn't really take sorrow or dejection greatly, despite his tough exterior he so desperately cannot let anyone down, or see his friends or family in anguish, as much as he hides it he still doesn't take it well, and has down moments or feels huge guilt seeing a friend of family member in trouble or being hurt. It effects his confidence and shakes his resolve.
Ichigo has a complicated sense of honour when it comes to a battle, he sees it as his duty to protect his friends and family's honour more so than his own, and act on their behalf. He is always seeking out revenge for those who can’t fight back. He is adamant that a fight should be fair and both parties should be on equal footings, which also leads to Ichigo resenting his hollow for interfering with his fights. He is not one to slaughter his enemies or kill them when they already lost or can no longer fight. He also despises those who belittle their comrades and speak ill of those on their own side.

Dislikes, Fears, and Weaknesses:
DISLIKES

• Reckless - Ichigo has an urging need to protect others, and while that is a strength it is also a weakness in him because it leaves him blinded to the danger he walks into. The moment he sees a friend in danger he will disregard his own life and run straight in to their aid and stupidly not assess the situation or come up with any kind of strategy. The way he dishes out attacks without a forethought are also considered reckless and dangerous by others.
Ambitions/Dreams/Goals:

Fighting Style:
Ichigo has learned to fight from a young age, he attended a dojo and learned until he could surpass Tatsuki a friend of his. Physically Ichigo is on top form, and specifically uses take down moves or swift punches and body locks showing his agility and knowledge of training from his father. He is usually only using any hand to hand combat on bullies at his school and regularly encounters them so has had lots of practice. He does sometimes incorporate and hand to hand combat in fights but it's not often, like when he took down 3 vice captains with only his bare hands. But it is not his go to fighting style and rarely resorts to it but if challenged by another to fight only using hand to hand combat then he wouldn't back down and more than willing to comply.
With that Ichigo's best and most used style of fighting is Zanjustsu (swordsmanship). He is skilled in wielding a weapon that being Zangetsu. Ichigo's reaction time is quick and agile, he knows his way around sword fighting and has some experience although not enough as others. But Ichigo learns quickly and is rapidly gaining skill all the time. His sword strikes are fast, and forceful, he tends to attack rapidly and at a constant pace without hesitation putting pressure on his opponents.
He often uses a combination of shunpo and fast sword swings, to throw his opponents off guard, especially when in Bankai Ichigo's speed is greatly increased and it becomes harder to detect where Ichigo will strike next. Ichigo's endurance is also a notable ability, he has demonstrated he can withstand attacks and direct hits and take on vast amounts of body damage and still stand and fight without it effecting him at all.
Ichigo likes a level playing field when in a serious battle, it’s just how he likes things to be. It defiantly has to be an even fight and if one is more so injured than the other he will voice his dislike for it. He tends to hold back if he knows he can beat someone, perhaps torment his opponent when he can get overly cocky in those kinds of fights too. He may need bringing back down to remind him that he could still get injured if not anything else.
When he does win serious fights he likes to give his opponents opportunities to change their way of thinking, he will try and reason with them ask them why they are doing what they are. Maybe try and understand them and if they are defeated then he sees no point in attacking a defenceless enemy. Of course if words aren't enough Ichigo will deliver a killing blow if really needed and he knows there is no changing of his enemy’s ways sometimes. He does avoid killing, and much rather just immobilise or disarm his enemies and just stop them from carrying out their goals or stop them from causing any further harm.
In the event that he faces much stronger opponents Ichigo is usually not one to think of that as an instant reason to give up. He never does think to give up and carries on despite learning that kind of information, sure it will surprise him to know but he will still stand up and fight. He will ignore the fact his enemies boast their ranks, it means nothing to him and will still try and win.
Shinigami's Partner
Zanpakuto Name: Zangetsu (Slaying moon)
Zanpakuto Element: Reiatsu
Sealed Weapon Appearance: Zangetsu is in a constantly released state meaning it's Shikai appearance is the same as it would normally look. Zangetsu is a huge oversized blade that isn't what a typical shinigami's sword would look like, in fact some comment on it saying it doesn't even look like a Zanpakuto. The blade is almost as tall as Ichigo is himself and that it due to the fact that Ichigo cannot contain his reiatsu.
The oversized shape of it is a reflection of Ichigo's overwhelming reiatsu amount. It has the shape of a cleaver knife but gets narrower at the end and more of a point. One half of the blade is black and the edge a reflective silver. While Zangetsu is an oversized blade it can also be used as a defence, the widest part of Zangetsu is perfect for turning and acting as a shield from incoming attacks.
Ichigo often has what looks lie bandages wrapped around the lack of a hilt or guard Zangetsu has and it provides some grip. The cloth wrapped around the guard can be an added extra in which it can be used to throw Zangetsu at enemies in a way that Ichigo doesn't often do. The cloth can also be used to act as bandages in which he can use quickly to hold off any bleeding as a temporary measure.
Spirit Appearance: The spirit of Zangetsu appears as a tall (slightly taller than Kenpachi Zaraki) lean-built, middle-aged man. He has a very pale skin and high cheekbones, stubble, and long ragged black hair with brown highlights. His attire consists of a tattered white dress shirt with an upturned collar and cuffs, black trousers, low-heeled boots, and a long, amorphous black overcoat with a burgundy highlight that flares out into ragged ends his overcoat always appears to be in motion as if it were in a breeze or underwater. He wears brown-tinted, semi-transparent wrap around sunglasses. Because of the spirit's appearance, Ichigo tends to call him "Old-man Zangetsu'.
Ichigo's other zanpakuto spirit is that of Zangetsu's true form, that being the form Ichigo knows to be his inner hollow. Zangetsu is his main point of call for advice and his hollow is the less rational. The hollow's appearance closely resembles Ichigo himself except for opposing colours and wearing a white robe instead of black. Both are Ichigo's zanpakuto spirits and are very different and represent different parts of Ichigo's power he had yet to discover truly.
Spirit Personality: Zangetsu is often wise, he always tries to help Ichigo in the sense of opening his eyes trying to make him see without telling him directly. He never loses his temper and appears calm throughout and maintains a level head unlike Ichigo who panics and is loud and brash. He seems to want Ichigo to progress and ants to protect him at all costs unknowing to Ichigo. He is seen as a mentor type and teaches Ichigo lessons.
Inner World: The inner world of Zangetsu is that of huge scale skyscrapers all close to each other and it is often difficult to tell which way is up or down in Zangetsu's inner world. When Ichigo first encounters Zangetsu and his inner world he becomes disorientated and the scale of the world becomes apparent when he free falls continuously before plunging into waters below.
The skyscrapers are usually a blue colour and has an empty feeling with only Zangetsu sometimes present. The world itself is directly connected to Ichigo's soul and his mind-set. Should he not be in the right frame of mind the skies can cloud over and become a dull grey and when Ichigo's mind-set is wavering and his resolve is broken his inner world can become flooded with rain, and even complete submerge the entire place in water should Ichigo be so broken mentally.
Shikai Release Phrase: N/A
Shikai Appearance: N/A
Shikai Abilities:
Shikai Techniques:
Technique Name: Getsuga Tensho (Moon Fang Heaven-Piercer)
Technique Description: Getsuga Tensho is a highly powerful technique in which the user gathers reiatsu within the blade itself charging up super dense energy that can been seen surrounding on the blade itself as the reiatsu builds. Once Zangetsu is swung the highly charged energy is flung from the sharp tip that soars outwards and materialises into a huge crescent moon shaped beam. It has the capabilities to destroy anything it touches, cutting through or ripping down large building structures and taking out enemies effectively. The colour of the reiatsu is usually a light glowing blue when Ichigo remains in his Shikai form.
Ichigo can use the technique in a few varied more dynamic ways, and each one can aid in separate ways. The most common way it is used is just to aim at enemies directly and cause serious damage. He could also contain the heightened power of the Getsuga in the sword itself keeping it wrapped around the blade to make his sword swings more formidable and daunting strikes to his opponent. He could also use the Getsuga as a way to block or push back an attack or an enemy. By slashing at the ground with a Getsuga using the sheer force to hold back an attack and bat it away.

Bankai
'Tensa Zangetsu'
Bankai Release Phrase: Bankai!
Bankai Appearance: The appearance of Tensa Zangetsu is that of some moderate changes to the standard shinigami robes that is usually present. It is mostly the overcoat that is more a prominence that distinguishes the difference from his Shikai attire. The overcoat he gains still remains black but it cuts a different figure unlike Shikai it is more fitted through the shoulders and round his arms and ends at his wrists but also remains tightly fitting. It continues to conform to Ichigo's frame as it sits at his waist and is where it fans out more and stretches down to make the overcoat about ankle length.
The ends of the coat are jagged or in a ripped fashion to which the underlining can be seen to be a dark red colour. The collar is opened out and stretches down to Ichigo's chest in an open 'v' shape before it is closed off at his torso before kicking out again into the long part of the coat. The bottom half of his shinigami robes being wide leg remain and he still has a white sash tied at his middle. The coat is often a significance in his Bankai form, the overcoat is all part of his form and aids in compressing his reiatsu so that he can have the smaller Bankai he uses.
The sword itself changes entirely, its form is remodelled and replaced with a completely streamlined standard looking katana. It retains its length but the width shrinks down and is what gives it the ability to compress reiatsu in order to excel in other areas like speed. The smaller sword is why a lot of other shinigami will not recognise Tensa Zangetsu as a standard Bankai as they are usually an expansion rather than compression of power.
The lack of a guard of hilt on Zangetsu in Shikai is now replaced with a black guard that has four prongs form out in a fashion that resembles the kanji for the word Bankai. The hilt is also black keeping the whole sword to be all black with the exception of some small red wrapping the crosses over the grip. Completing Tensa Zangetsu is the al so black chain that hags from the very end of the hilt it is often heard clanking whenever the sword moves or strikes.
Bankai Abilities:
Due to the smaller size of Tensa Zangetsu, all of Ichigo's chaotic and fierce reiatsu is compressed to increase two areas of his power, his speed and offensive capabilities are granted a +2 FAR on each attribute.
Bankai Techniques:
Technique Name: Kuroi Getsuga
Technique Description:
Tensa Zangetu keeps its Getsuga Tensho but in a different form, it is used and can be varied in that of the same way his Shikai attack does. This attack is originally that of his hollow and therefore a hollow technique but can be used in Bankai. One of the main differences is the path and colour of the blast. It changes from the usual blue to a black with a dark red outline similar to the colour Ichigo's Bankai has within it. Its force and power are also another notable difference in this enhanced Getsuga. Ichigo seems to create difference paths for this attack, it has sometimes just been used in the same crescent moon shaped style and on other occasions usually with his hollow mask in place it sometimes spins, or rotates over as it is released.

Opponent is One Tier Lower: Very deep slash wounds and severe burns.

Are you a Visored?
Inner Hollow Appearance: Ichigo's inner hollow has the exact same appearance as himself, acting as a reflection of Ichigo's inner demons. They are the same height and build except he is Ichigo's opposite he is the negative in colouring. He is often completely white with white shinigami robes that are similar to Ichigo's in fact. His eyes however are completely black with orange/yellow pupils that stand out against the black.
His personality is really opposite of Ichigo as well, he might be just as brash and loud as Ichigo but they have two very different ways of fighting. His hollow for one is crazy someone psychopathic, over the top eccentric who actually enjoys fighting and cutting up his enemies even if they aren't able to fight any more. He often interferes with Ichigo's fights and tries to take over despite Ichigo's hatred for him his hollow has saved him a few times from almost dying. The two couldn't be further apart but his hollow is becoming under some control but he still will take any opportunity to fight Ichigo's battles.
His hollow torments him, mentally giving Ichigo a split personality which often leads his enemies to question who are they really fighting here. Ichigo will always refuse his hollows help stating he doesn't need him to aid his battles and he can fight them on his own. Whenever he does take over it is very apparent when it happens and is a sudden interruption in which Ichigo will violently try and regain control of his own body as well as his sanity. If Ichigo's hollow win a fight then it isn't really a win for Ichigo and declare it wasn't him fighting with his own consciousness.
Mask Appearance: Ichigo's hollow mask has been changing over time but it is currently the appearance of a white hollow like skull covering his entire face with narrow slits where his eyes are and large oversized teeth. It also has dark red marks that run down one side. His hollow mask has only appearance involuntarily when he fought Byakuya and needs training to learn more about the form and how he can use his hollows strength in a safe and controlled manner without losing his control.
Mask Ability: Once the hollow mask is summoned and put on Ichigo's level of durability goes up. This inhumane form allows him to withstand a lot more than when in Shikai or his Bankai for that matter. He can take on attacks and not be phased by them and continue to fight on. By breaking through the restrictions and the barrier between shinigami and hollow, Ichigo is able to take his power to a more increased level. His strength is boosted as well as the intensity of his attacks. It specifically gives him a boost of +1 FAR to both defence and offence.
Mask Duration: 1-3 posts, not able to summon mask at will.

Tell me your story...
History:
Life as a human
Ichigo's story begins even before he was born, his life was already set in stone before he was even in existence. His parents were that of unusual beings unbeknown to him currently, his mother Masaki was a Quincy with power of her own, and his father Isshin a profound Shinigami. The two of them were no ordinary beings and dabbled in the spiritual world. Ichigo was to inherit not just their traits but their spiritual awareness that would later change his life. He was born on July 15th with summer in full swing. A few years later Ichigo's younger, twin sister's Karin and Yuzu were born. They were like any other ordinary family and would often go on trips out, with Isshin and Masaki wanting more quiet lives.
When Ichigo turned 4 years old he developed an attachment to his mother Masaki in particular. He would help her out and walk alongside her all the time and wanted to spend time with her. His father had informed him his name actually had the meaning of 'he who protects' and Ichigo took that on board claiming he wanted to protect his family. His want to protect others was born here and he even joined a dojo in order to do this. Masaki would take him usually and he was paired up with Tatsuki Arisawa, a tough no nonsense girl and someone who had no problem with beating and surpassing Ichigo which lead to him crying. It would happen often until Masaki would come and pick him up his mood would change rapidly and his tears would be replaced with a big smile. Tatsuki even said he shouldn't be smiling for someone who just lost to a girl.
It wasn't long before Ichigo could see spirits, he began to see them so vividly that he could not tell the difference between the two. He would happily be talking with ghosts when he did not even realise they were of the dead. He eventually worked it out and continued to talk to them causing other children to think he was strange and it wouldn't be long before those said people would turn on him. He was singled out for his unique gift and gradually it turned into bullying. He would be beaten and pushed around just because of what others couldn't see. The only person who would come to Ichigo's aid was in fact Tatsuki. She would chase off bullies and help him, she too would try to question him about if he could really see ghosts but it was just easier to say he couldn't see them. Tatsuki quickly became Ichigo's only friend despite him not being all that sociable.
On June 17th it was that of a stormy evening and rain had flooded the riverbank that Ichigo and his mother usually walked beside. But is hadn't stopped them from venturing out. Being the ever so protective kid Ichigo was he would often suggest he would protect Masaki and walk on the side nearest to the road. He was just happy to be walking alongside Masaki as often as he could. Ichigo spotted a girl dangerously close to the edge of the river, and being the kid he was, he didn't hesitate to run out and try and save the girl. Of course upon reaching her it was then apparent that this girl was not of the living and he only realised that when she disappeared from Ichigo's sight. He could hear Masaki's pained cries as she begged for him to stop, but he refused to and continued on. It was here that Ichigo could not recall what happened next, he lost consciousness and only awoke after some time to discover Masaki lying over him covered in blood. The crippling reality was that Masaki was no longer alive, he couldn't understand what had happened to her, but being so young and to witness the death of his mother has huge repercussions on Ichigo's life.
Ichigo was never to be the same after the intensity of losing someone so close to him, was proving to be unbearable. He didn't know how to cope with it all, and being the quiet kid he was anyway, he very quickly shut down, and shut everyone out. He didn't really confide in Isshin or his sisters, he would hide away, and even skip school so he didn't have to face endless questions about the loss of his mother. The Kurosaki family had been hit hard by the news, and the centre of their world had been taken away from them. Ichigo refused to turn up for school or to the dojo for many days and Tatsuki would go looking for him, she would eventually find him pacing up and down the very riverbank where Masaki died. Ichigo seemed to be aimlessly searching for his mother and would rest before standing back and carrying on his searching. It probably wasn't the best of ideas but Ichigo couldn't help but want to be at the riverbank to feel like she was nearby. Tatsuki would stay with him sometimes and try to be of some comfort.
A few years passed by and the Kurosaki family had done their grieving for Masaki and had a shrine to her name in the cemetery where they would annually visit. Ichigo was now twelve he had gone back to school where he faced endless torment and the fact that Ichigo was seen as unusual anyway, he was an easy target seeing as he was still so quiet and refused to mix with anyone. He had finished another day of school not without the usual teasing Ichigo faced and he had returned home where his father now ran a small clinic. Isshin was a skilled doctor and took it upon himself to create his own business sometimes Ichigo and his sisters would help but they often came across many injured patients who had strange wounds from hollows, but a hollow wasn't something Ichigo was even aware of by this age.
Ichigo answered the door to a young girl who was about the same age as Ichigo himself, she had dark orange hair and was crying as she carried her brother on her back wanting help. Isshin tried his best to save the girl's brother who had been involved in a serous car accident and was in a bad way. The clinic did not have the right equipment to cope with the injuries and he later died before the ambulance transfer Isshin had arranged for didn't reach them in time. Ichigo was left to bear witness to the young girl's crying, she sobbed as Ichigo at least tried to comfort her, because he too knew all too well how she felt. It was later on in Ichigo's life that he would meet this girl again.
A few more years later and Ichigo had entered his teens, and he had now started in Mashiba junior school. This is the stage where Ichigo changes dramatically, he is no longer the scared timid kid he was. Ichigo was always shy, or nervous and was open to bullies to attack him, he was seen as weak and useless and had taken on so many beatings, Ichigo had enough here. There was only so much he could take, and after more years without Masaki's guidance Ichigo lost his way a bit. Shutting people out was becoming Ichigo's go to approach he was getting pretty good at doing it. Ichigo would shed tears no more, and he wasn't the pushover he once was, instead Ichigo's reputation went from cry-baby to brutal thug. Bullies no longer had a hold over him, it was more like the other way around this time. People wouldn't dare so much as look his way in fear because they had heard so many stories about him, and how he took down the likes of bullies from other schools. Most started to consider him scary or dangerous to mix with and from here his reputation is born.
Despite this Ichigo still remains friends with Tatsuki, he continued on attending the dojo with her and he finally defeats her in a match. After many losses Ichigo surpasses her and has never fought her again after that quitting the dojo all together. Ichigo and Tatsuki's relationship is that of childhood friends, they tease one another and have a good friendship she still remains on his side despite noting the change in him, she will still bring him back down when needed. Ichigo's bullies still grow bigger in numbers, and his hair colour becomes the reason for this, they pick up on anything for an excuse to beat him. But Ichigo puts up a good fight himself now, and this leads him to get into countless fights, mind you he never actually starts them but simply defends himself. His dojo had given him the skills and hand to hand combat that he needs to make sure his bullies never get away with it lightly.
It is during one of these fights that Ichigo meets and befriends Sado Yasutora after he protects him from being hurt by a bunch of thugs. It seemed Sado too had been bullied for his different appearance and stood in their way. It seemed they stole Sado's much prized possession a coin given to him by his family and used that to get at him. Ichigo was quick to take out the leader of the gang known as Yokochini who he later has re-occurring fights with. Ichigo cleverly rings for five ambulances being the cocky guy he is to come pick them up when Ichigo is through with them. After retrieving Sado's coin Ichigo makes a pact with him and they decided to look out for one another seeing as they both have issues with thugs picking fights with them. Ichigo later claims he is going to call Sado, Chad from here on and the two are always seen together and become known for the many fights they take on with gangs and bullies.
Shortly before Ichigo turned 15 and became a Shinigami, he and Chad began attending Karakura High School, and their reputations preceded them. During a fight with a gang led by Reiichi Oshima, Ichigo and Chad met Keigo Asano and Mizuiro Kojima, saving the former in the process. Keigo is quick to recognise both Ichigo and Chad as those guys who get involved with gangs and eventually Keigo befriends them both. This is the point where Ichigo realises that Tatsuki's best friend, Inoue Orihime is in fact the very girl he saw that night when his father tried to save her brother.
Life as a substitute shinigami
Ichigo's story at this point is where his world is turned upside down, he is now fifteen and its closer to the current time. Life is pretty much a regular occurrence of going to school and trying to get good grades, and at the same time defend himself from thugs it pretty much became the norm for Ichigo at this point. On one evening Ichigo returned from school and after a scuffle with Isshin goes to his room, only to be greeted by Rukia Kuchiki a shinigami from Soul Society. She quite easily steps through the walls and enters his room leading Ichigo panic. It is here that Rukia explains who or what she is and the two don't exactly get along but still he finds it hard to believe all what Rukia is telling him. But she is interrupted by the cries of a hollow, something Ichigo is just being awakened to seeing.
It is from here that Ichigo's family the ones he is so hell bent on protecting become threatened by that of a hollow. He discovers how these are actually souls of those who don't pass on to Soul Society and become hollows. Ichigo doesn't hesitate to protect his sisters who are attacked, even Rukia tries to help because she tells him it is her duty to protect the people of this world from hollows. Rukia takes a turn for the worst and is wounded by the hollow causing the situation to become out of hand. Ichigo must take Rukia's shinigami power in order to save his family. He does not hold back on the idea and takes Rukia's sword plunging it deep into his body and Rukia's power is offloaded onto Ichigo changing him into a temporary shinigami dressed in their black robes and carrying an oversized blade on his back.
The new found power given to him is enough to take out the hollow with ease and he saves his family thanks to Rukia's quick thinking. After this event takes place Ichigo's life is changed forever, in a bid to save his family he may have just taken on more than he thought. Ichigo attends school as normal the following day and notices that his family do not even recall what happened to them before. Assuming Rukia had gone back to Soul Society Ichigo continues on with his day. Ichigo encounters Tatsuki and Orihime as usual and things appear to be normal that is until Rukia shows up at his school causing all his class mates to think she is new student here.
Rukia informs him that his fighting days aren't over and that he took all her power and now he has to carry out her duties as a shinigami. This isn't what Ichigo signed up for, he only cared for his family why would he want to go gallivanting off to save the world. Of course Ichigo fails to see the bigger picture and is forced into realising that Rukia's job as a shinigami is that of unbiased duties, you have to save everyone who is in danger of being eaten by hollows. Rukia demonstrates this by showing him others who are being chased by hollows. Ichigo is convinced to take on Rukia's job and it is here that Rukia and Ichigo from a friendship as she pretty much becomes his instructor and aids him when he has to fend off hollows. It is from this day onwards Ichigo becomes known as a Substitute Shinigami.
It is only after gaining shinigami power that Ichigo is made more aware of Inoue Orihime's past. He had met her before on the day her brother Sora had died. He remembered her and had noticed the hairpins she had been given by him. But that was all he really knew up until he had to get involved when Acidwire the hollow that is now Orihime's dead brother. He learns from Rukia how relatives who couldn't leave this world without regret would come back for their relatives and this is the case with Orihime. He learns of Orihime's parents and how they abandoned her and were abusive towards Orihime. Dora explained how he in fact raised Orihime on his own. Acidwire is not here to catch up with Orihime and he tries to attack her it is here that Ichigo protects Orihime with his life strengthening his resolve to want to protect others even more so now that he had a power to use.
Ichigo's fight with Acidwire is not an easy one seeing as he hesitates to kill him and it almost costs Ichigo his life. Orihime however steps in and takes on Acidwire stopping him when she gets bitten and tries to stop him from doing any more damage. She tries to break him out of his hollow like form and he eventually purifies himself using Ichigo's Zanpakuto. Rukia erases Orihime's memories of that night and they return to school keeping an eye on Orihime's wellbeing.
Ichigo continues his duties as a Substitute Shinigami and takes care of hollows on a regular basis it now becoming part of his life. At school it is quickly picked up by Ichigo's friends like Keigo and Mizuiro that he's been spending an awful lot of time with Rukia lately and they even suggest the two are in a relationship. Ichigo of course bates them down insisting they are nothing like that. On that same day Chad brings in a parakeet that has the soul of boy within it. Rukia just informs them it is a harmless plus that can be sent back to Soul Society. But it does not go that smoothly and hollows are being drawn to the soul bringing out another hollow Shrieker who battles Ichigo and he learns how hollows don't always go to Soul Society and that hell exists. After defeating Shrieker the gates of hell pull him in and Rukia only briefly explains it.
Rukia and Ichigo continues to battle the town's hollows and he is learning more and more about the spiritual world and how things work within it. On one of the days at school Ichigo encounters Ishida Uryu, who instantly takes a disliking to Ichigo and it is all due to the fact that they are two opposite beings, with Ishida being a Quincy. He is informed of what a Quincy actually is, and how the two of them are supposed to be rivals. Ichigo of course doesn't understand this fully and why they are supposed to hate one another. Ishida initiates a battle between them and releases bait on purpose to draw as many hollows as possible. Ichigo cannot see this to be a good idea, as now the town is under a high amount of danger with not a good enough reason. He still has to take out as many hollows as he can and Ichigo tells him it is better to fight alongside one another to keep the town safe. The encounter of a Menos Grande later on proves even more difficult for Ichigo to fend off, but he at least makes a pact with Ishida and despite the two having to be of opposite beings, he still is somewhat friends with him.
Ichigo also then discovers all about mod souls and is how they come to possess Kon, a small lion like plushie in which the small mod soul pill is placed. Ichigo discovers you can place the mod soul pill inside an inanimate object and they can live within that object. Ichigo can now use Kon to keep his body occupied while he goes off to fight hollows.
The anniversary of Masaki death comes around and the Kurosaki family go to their annual gathering at Masaki's grave. The trip is that of a usual one like every year with the exception of Rukia tagging along and questions Ichigo all about his mother and what happened to her. Ichigo only keeps it brief not wanting to talk about it all too much. It only angers Ichigo to hear such questions brought up and he lashes out at Rukia. The guilt of not being able to save Masaki on that night still sits with Ichigo and creates self-blame on his part. But an alert of a nearby hollow becomes more of Ichigo's way to distract from the pained subject of his mother. The hollow in fact turns out to be the very hollow that disguised itself as a girl on the riverbank the night Ichigo had tried to help.
Feeling a huge swell of vengeful hate Ichigo knows he has to destroy it, especially as Rukia claims it has not been defeated and many shinigami failed to stop it. This was vital to Ichigo, a chance to redeem himself to take off that heavy burden he carried round thinking he was so useless back then that he had failed Masaki that it had been his fault for running off like he had. His anger often clouded his judgement, and while he tried his best to kill Grand Fisher Ichigo's own emotional attachment to the situation would be one that let him down. He is open to all sorts of attacks because of what the victory would mean to him. He could deal with blame better, he didn't know why no one pointed the blame at him after all these years. He had thought that was no less than what he deserved, he was supposed to protect her, and he’d promised her he'd take care of her even if it was something he said as a child he still meant it.
Rukia tries to fight the battle for Ichigo, and step in when he starts to show signs he cannot fight properly. But Ichigo bitterly rejects her help, anyone's help is pointless at that point. It was to be a battle of pride one that he had to fight no matter what. Grand Fisher even to this day still plays dirty tricks like manipulate a manifestation of Masaki right in front of Ichigo's very eyes leaving him to be struck by a useless feeling once more, the feeling that he couldn't face Masaki even if this was just an imagery trick. It still leaves Ichigo to be vulnerable and he is struck right through the chest leaving him to collapse unable to fight any more. Grand Fisher escapes with an injury but still lives on. Ichigo is left to deal with the fact he did not kill Grand Fisher, and so he will not give up, he will get those responsible for her death.
Ichigo is now finding being a Substitute to be second nature, he is used to patrolling town and dealing with hollows regularly. But things were about to take a turn for far worse. Rukia's earlier actions do not go unnoticed by Soul Society and their laws must be abided by one of those being to never pass your power onto a human. Rukia had down just this and the laws of Soul Society were about to catch up with her. It seemed Rukia knew of this law and that someone would come for her, she leaves Ichigo a note and takes off before he realises she is gone. Renji Abarai and Byakuya Kuchiki both arrive in the human world to ensure Rukia's capture. They track her down and confront her and she has to obey with the order to bring her back to Soul Society. Soon afterwards Ichigo gets Rukia's note and he rushes to her aid praying for her safety. But it is Ichigo's own life he should be worried about, for he is attacked by both Renji and Byakuya where he is stuck with power Ichigo could not even imagine existed. He is rendered useless once again and becomes angry with himself for being protected by Rukia seeing as she complied with the order to leave.
Ichigo is left with horrendous wounds that are life threatening, he is left for dead as he has to watch the pained look on Rukia's face as she leaves. She instructs him to never go after her and to leave things as they are. Ichigo has no option but to lay there and watch helplessly as everything is taken from him. Someone who he considered a friend leaving as well as Byakuya shattering his soul chain so he no longer has his shinigami power. Ichigo can do nothing more than be with his thoughts as he lay there dying.
When it seemed like Ichigo had slowly given up and accepted his fate Urahara Kisuke a shopkeeper arrives. But he does not know if this means he will still survive he passed out and believes he has ceased living and everyone he wanted to protect he has let down, again. But Ichigo is given a second chance, Urahara takes Ichigo in and heals him up and reveals himself to be someone who too is aware of the spiritual world. He offers Ichigo a once in a lifetimes opportunity, to go to Soul Society it is the answer Ichigo had been wanting to hear. The Soul Society of what Rukia spoke of he could go there and stop her punishment for breaking their laws, that being of execution. Ichigo demands Urahara tell him how to get him there, his enthusiasm clear, but Urahara does not want him getting too ahead of himself as Ichigo has no idea what he would face should he even get there.
Urahara offers training, a guide to train him to fight properly to make him a better warrior and fit enough to take on the likes of Captains and Vice Captains. It was clear Ichigo had a long way to go but he would comply with Urahara's unusual methods. Ichigo is put through vigorous training once that restores his shinigami power by starting from the very beginning and teaching him all about the Zanpakuto. He must learn its name, something that Ichigo had vaguely seen as said by Renji. Ichigo's Zanpakuto awakens and his sword is Zangetsu, it is here that Ichigo first encounters what Zangetsu looks like in his manifestation form. He learns from Zangetsu himself all what he has to learn.
The training proves successful except for one aspect of the training, Ichigo develops and inner hollow. This is due to the restoration of his soul it hangs in the balance of either becoming a shinigami or a hollow. Ichigo's soul appears to be one about to change into a hollow but his mask is forming unusually. It eventually combines them and it leaves Ichigo with a hollow within his soul. It doesn't seem to be much of something to worry about until later on when it becomes a more apparent problem.
Ichigo is somewhat prepared for busting into Soul Society and saving Rukia and he arrives at Urahara's shop so he can explain how to get there. But to Ichigo's surprise he is greeted by none other than his school friends, Chad, Ishida, and Orihime. Little does Ichigo know that his constant and overflowing reiatsu helped to awaken power within his friends. Chad and Orihime gain their power abilities and insist they go with him. Trying to comprehend all the news Ichigo can't help but feel like he is bringing his friends into a dangerous world. He asks Orihime if she knows how dangerous it could get and she informs him she promised Tatsuki she'd return unharmed.
With that Ichigo and his friends gather inside Urahara's shop where his underground training area has a portal ready and set up to be their pathway to Soul Society. The pathway isn't without its dangers and the cleaner inside could threaten to wipe them out before they even arrive. It is thanks to Orihime that they get out relatively unscathed. Soul Society proves to be another world entirely with its own population its own separate laws and beings living among one another. Immediately Ichigo and his friends are faced with the huge gate keeper Jidanbou who guards the gate into the Soul Society. It Ichigo's chance to put into practice his skills he has acquired from Kisuke and with ease Ichigo is able to destroy the two axes Jidanbou possess. It is clear that Ichigo's level in skills have increased and it is a turning point in which he starts to build on his technique and from here on in anyone he battles is merely going to give him more knowledge and much needed experience.
After defeated Jidanbou and even higher ranked shinigami interrupts and Ichigo stupidly takes him on. Yoruichi is quick to tell him that it is Gin a Captain and taking on someone of their calibre is like a death sentence. Of course Ichigo being the stubborn person he is does not listen and only learns the hard way and ends up on his back and still not in Soul Society's main gate. There is another way in Soul Society and that is where Yoruichi helps out. They enlist the help of Kukkaku Shiba a head of a noble family the Shiba Clan. Her fireworks canon is an alternate way into Soul Society and Ichigo and his friends comply and are quickly blasted above Soul Society in a cannon ball along with Ganju Shiba another member of the noble family to assist them. The only way in is above and they break through the protective barrier placed around Soul Society and the mission to save Rukia begins.
Ichigo's first encounter is Ikkaku Madarame, where he learns about the different divisions and what attributes they each have. Ikkaku being that of an 11th division member Ichigo fights him and displays that he had similar fighting style of those of that division. Ichigo demonstrates the strength in which eh as grown, how much stronger his attacks have becomes and easily surpassed Ikkaku and is warned that his Captain Kenpachi will be seeking a fight with him. He eventually does encounter Kenpachi where the battle is one that Ichigo struggles, he is overwhelmed by Kenpachi's reiatsu and the two battle with the help from Zangetsu he barely manages to beat Kenpachi and both of them are left bloodied and fighting for survival.
Along the way of Ichigo's many battles in Soul Society a hollow mask keeps on appearing on Ichigo and has been the reason why some attacks didn't kill him. Seeming as if the hollow mask was acting as a protection. It is noticed by Hanatarou and Ganju and it causes them concern. Despite the mask being thrown into a sewer the mask still appears later on.
Rukia's execution is suddenly moved forward and Ichigo needs a way of beating Byakuya. Yoruichi informs him that he must learn his Bankai in order to rival against Byakya's level of strength. Unknown how that can be achieved, Yoruichi pushed him to train and reach Bankai in three days which is all the time Ichigo has left, if not less to save Rukia. Zangetsu is forced to manifest and he has to battle him in order to learn Bankai.
Half way through Ichigo's training Renji comes by to inform him of Rukia's execution date being moved to an earlier time, meaning Ichigo's time to achieve Bankai are rapidly fading. In desperation Ichigo defeats Zangetsu and forcing him to submit and teach him Bankai in less than 3 days required and just when Rukia is about to be executed Ichigo shows up blocking the Sokyoku. Rukia is angry at Ichigo for coming to save her but he simply ignores her and prepares for another attack from the Sokyoku before he can stop it Jushiro Ukitake and his vice Captains stop the Sokyoku snd Rukia's execution is finally stopped. Ichigo later shatters the grounds of the execution and grabbed Rukia throwing her to Renji and tells him to take her away from here.
Ichigo fends off any threats that come Rukia and Renji's way including taking out 3 Vice Captains without his sword. It isnt long before Byakuya is raged and attacks Ichigo starting off their fight. The two of them battle on top of Sokyoku hill where Ichigo struggles to keep up with Byakuya in just his Shikai and knows he must go Bankai in order to defeat him. Ichigo still doesn’t understand why Byakuya doesn’t save Rukia himself and is told he will only answer that if Ichigo wins this battle. Ichigo changes into his newly achieved Bankai and it is instantly claimed by Byakuya that is isn’t a normal Bankai and that Ichigo could never attain it. Ichigo proves to be a match with Byakuya in battle and overwhelms him with speed eventually Byakuya released his Senkei and Ichigo takes a few hits and it struck by a Kidou where it stop Ichigo from moving and this calls upon Ichigo's inner hollow to come out and take over Ichigo's body in their fight. Ichigo's hollow ruthlessly attacks Byakuya and he fires off a black Getsuga Tensho in Bankai form destroying a lot of the grounds. Byakuya notes that the reiatsu from Ichigo has become twisted and he realised this is an inner hollow interrupting the fight.
Ichigo fights back and he pulls off his hollow mask and claims that they had to finish their fight in one attack seeing as that wasn’t him really fighting when his hollow showed up. Ichigo and Byakuya then face off in one last attack and Ichigo ends up shattering Byakuya's sword winning the fight but only just. He almost falls to the ground unable to stand and Byakuya finally answers Ichigo's questions. Byakuya tells him he won’t pursue Rukia anymore and Ichigo is later joined by his friends before Aizen Sosuke is revealed to actually be behind a lot of the goings on in Soul Society, he had faked his own death and stole the Hogyoku from Rukia's body and he disappeared to Hueco Mundo. Ichigo returned home and is now wanting to help in taking down Aizen.
