Personality: Tashanu is a whirlwind of destruction, held back only by the fact he is held in service by a greater still destroyer. The battlefield is a constant calling to Tashanu; like a second heartbeat, ever building in his chest and soul until it almost feels like it will explode, an urge compels Tashanu to pick up his blade and cut down others with it, to spread carnage. Such is Tashanu's need to fight that it has overwhelmed almost all other aspects of his being – there is no room for the common emotions of a warrior such as duty or honour or even, sadly, for the most part, things such as entertainment. Like a fire out of fuel, Tashanu has largely burnt out most of his capacity for feeling.
There is room for some, however. He still knows fear, and he knows it well. When a sword pierces his flesh, he understands that death could creep close. He is not the kind of being that relishes the two sided nature of combat; he does not enjoy the wounds that come from travelling from battlefield to battlefield. It is only the slaughter of others – not combat itself but instead the creation of mountains of corpses - that brings some semblance of peace to his mind, whilst reminders of his own mortality only drive him into a further frenzy to see the battle ended quickly. It is the fear of those who first captured him, who made them their weapon, their tool, that keeps him in check. Tashanu lives a poor life, and he is well aware of it, but any life is preferable to death.
When able to keep himself away from combat, Tashanu spends much of his time seeking to learn from others – the topic is irrelevant. There is a clear distinction in his mind between what he is compelled to do, and what he wishes to do. He hopes one day to be free from his bloodlust, to stand as a whole being, to truly live as others do. For that reason, he has often dreamt of becoming an arrancar, but he knows that he will need help to do so, for each time he has attempted to break his mask, he has been unsuccessful, has caused himself great pain, and has awoken from a sudden bout of unconsciousness surrounded by bodies.
