Personality: Hanji Oji-sama (Grandpa Hanji), or Hanji Ou-sama (King Hanji; note that the suffix '-sama' denotes utmost respect) as he wishes to be called, is a very eccentric, silly, unusual fellow with a very talkative mouth and a cocky attitude. He's so old no one apparently knows his age, and he'll be obnoxious enough to point it out to you. He is also extremely perverted. He likes people who praise him, and will do favors for them, or beautiful women. Well, that's what you'll see at first glance. His fighting style is no different. Loud, showy and noisy are his ways in battle. But Hanji will hold back when fighting a female, especially in a spar. As a matter of fact, he will let some of her blows land on purpose. Guys are not so lucky. But understand this: Hanji is no fool. In a battle of life-and-death, he will fight at max potential, no matter his opponent.
Hanji is very very good in combat; there would be few who can fight him and not sweat. He is an accomplished master of hakuda (hand-to-hand techniques), and has even originated his own fighting style, the Shinken, which actually seems too widely versatile and all-encompassing to be considered a fighting style. Hanji has trained scores of Shinigami, and for each one of his students, he develops a variant of Shinken, specially tailored to utilize the trainee's physical strengths in combat. He is also quite amazing in kidou, and it is said he knows all the conventional spells.
When one hears that Hanji has trained a lot of people, perhaps it will be easier to see his true nature. He is quite the father-image, when he's not chasing the girls, and is a very good mentor, confidant and motivator. He has had his own fair share of dark days, and seeks to help others out of their own doldrums. And he will break the law, to save anyone under his wings. Well, laws matter little to the great Hanji Ou-sama.
History: Much of Hanji's past is not known; most people in Seireitei have seen him there for as long as they can remember, the Captain Commander included. But what everyone knows is that in a terrible battle (details of the battle are varied and even border on outrageous), Hanji lost his zanpakutou forever. He had disappeared and was thought dead, until he returned, almost a century later. During all that time, Hanji had focused on training his hand-to-hand fighting, speed and kidou usage, and he immediately became a valuable asset to Seireitei. At current, he is an exceptional leader and repertoire of knowledge, to those who he is inclined to help (majorly pretty females and those who can stoke his ego).
Intended Role: Most likely the Captain of one of the Divisions of the Gotei 13. He will serve as a father-figure, mentor, stereotypic wise-old-man (Hanji has his moments) and comic relief.
He fights using shunpo, kidou and hakuda. Hanji's fighting style, Shinken, simply uses reiatsu coupled with hakuda for a wide range of techniques and effects.
