 THE HOLY SHINIGAMI APPLICATION Name: Draiden Alias: Shinigami Crusader Real Age: 852 Phys. Age: 41 Gender: Male Personality: Draiden is a very zealous man, holy and devout to the Church’s goal of spreading Christianity to all reaches of the globe. Ever since he himself had been saved, given a ‘blessing’ that cured his wife and child of a short-lived but deadly plague, he became a warrior of the Church. He is passionate both on and off the battlefield, with a sense of honor to match. For the most part, especially since falling in battle as a mortal man, he is humble, knowing there is plenty out there better than himself and that one small slip could give a weaker opponent just the right moment to yet again end his life. So, he takes everything thrown his way seriously. Everything. He does not know the definition of sarcasm. Both figuratively, and very literally. Don’t try ‘Your mama’ jokes with him, they’re a quick trip to his bad side. Draiden’s mama was a good woman, would take care of anyone unfortunate that came to her door. It was from his mother that Draiden learned charity and compassion, knowing when it was best to spare a life and help it grow. Not that he’d spare a Hollow, he knows enough that Hollows need to be purified to keep the world’s balance, but not all one faces is a specific enemy. Every warrior he faces will have his respect so long as they fight with honor. One on one, up close and no cheap tricks. The moment a cheap tactic is used, all respect is out the window and you will have earned his scorn, for not only did they dishonor themselves, they dishonor Draiden by fighting dirty. THE COMBAT INFORMATION General Fighting Style: Draiden is an up-close tank of a fighter, having trained his body to push through the normal human tolerance of pain before his eventual death as a human. He is an aggressive fighter, doing what he can to keep things up close. Keep things honorable and he will as well. Use some underhanded attack or try attacking from the distance, and all bets are off. Until that point he would have avoided using his Zanpakutou’s full abilities because of how they worked, however will use them after someone fights dishonorably. Strengths: Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Speed Weaknesses: Spiritual Pressure, Spiritual Energy, Kido Ability Name: Divine Armor Ability Description: As if an act of God, Draiden’s armor was bound to his new spiritual body upon death, getting a unique black tint associated with his Shinigami powers. He can call this armor to materialize around his body at will at the start of a fight, and can get sent away to an armor stand of his choosing just as quickly. The armor reduces damage taken, which is dependent on his released state. In his base form, Draiden benefits from a 10% damage reduction. This number increased by 10% with each release until it reaches 40% total damage reduction. (Base: 10%, Shikai: 20%, Bankai: 30%, Toukai: 40%) Ability Name: Sword Master Ability Description: At the start of a fight, Draiden’s body slowly acclimates to battle. Each post grants a +1x boost to Attack Speed and Physical Strength, for a max of +2x boost. Further boosts granted from sword releases do not exceed the site’s limit. ZANPAKUTO Sealed Appearance:
Call Out Command: March Forward, to Glory SHIKAI Appearance: Upon entering Shikai, Draiden’s Zanpakuto turns from a katana into a double edged longsword. His armor remains the same.
Ability Name: Warrior’s Penance Ability Description: Draiden is able to use his Spirit Energy to fuel his sword strikes instead of casting any sort of Kido, not that he would have been able to use anything above number 50 anyway. Once each post he is able to enhance one of his sword strikes to be as powerful as a level 50 Kido. Ability Name: Graceful Clone Ability Description: This ability creates an illusionary replica of Draiden. It is completely unable to cause damage with attacks that it makes and attacks made against it pass right through it. It moves at the same speed Draiden does, and is used only as a diversion. This clone lasts for 3 posts, and has a 5 post cooldown. In any further released state, Draiden is able to trade places with the clone when dodging a projectile attack once each time it is used. This cannot be used to avoid melee attacks. Ability Name: Divine Rage Ability Description: Draiden emits a short range (20 ft.) pulse of Spirit Energy all around himself, the concentrated force of which acts like Sho and is equal to a level 20 Kido. This is used in an effort to try and knock his opponent of guard/ provide an opening. Ability Name: Lay-on-Hands Ability Description: As any holy warrior in fiction can, Draiden is able to administer light healing onto an ally. He uses his Spirit Energy to bind bleeding wounds, but isn’t able to affect major organs or regrow limbs. Abilities: Ability Name: Divine Barrier Ability Description: A bright blue barrier of runic characters circles Draiden. This barrier deflects any ranged Spirit Energy ability equal to a level 40 Kido and lower away from hitting Draiden for 2 posts. Followed by a 2 post cooldown. Ability Name: Blessed Sight Ability Description: Draiden is able to see the outline of any nearby being that has spiritual powers for one post. Has a 1 post cooldown. Used to track those who try to hide in battle. Ability Name: Master Strike Ability Description: Draiden is able to make a single, highly accurate strike that is able to pierce through a strong Hierro of anyone of the same tier and lower. Abilities: Ability Name: Smite Ability Description: His only ranged ability, Draiden releases a crescent shaped projectile of brightly glowing yellow energy. It is as powerful and as strong as a Cero. Can be used once per post. Ability Name: Final Judgement: Ancient Catastrophe Ability Description: His last-resort attack, Draiden focuses all of his energy to the surface of his body. The energy is released all at once as 30 Cero-strength spears of light fired in a large sphere around him. The spears will hit anything within a 50 foot radius before the energy becomes unstable and the spears explode for a short concussive burst. Once used, Draiden is forced into his sealed state and is unable to keep fighting. Boosts: 4x Strength, Durability, Stamina, Endurance BACK-DROP History: Before becoming a Shinigami, Draiden was a simple human being. He grew up on hard labor, working as both a farmer and carpenter. He got a wife, had a son and daughter, and owned farmland. Life was simple, but it was good. He provided for his family. It was shortly after his son turned 4 though that his life took a dark twist. A plague, brought by rodents carrying the disease, swept through the region and nearly killed his wife and children. However some holy men passed through, and granted him a blessing from ‘God’ to cure his family of this plague. Though he had been too late to cure his daughter, he was able to save his wife and son. He was astonished. How had he not thought to ask for divine help for his family before? He owed everything to these men, so when they asked for him to join them and become a soldier of ‘God’, how could he refuse? They promised him that most of his pay would go to his family to help support them. As such, while he was kept in shape from a life of hard work, he had to be trained as a soldier. He learned to use a sword, his body adjusted to wearing heavy armor for many hours of the day, and was able to wear it with little problem when sleeping too. It was the fighting that really affected him. When he took his first life, he didn’t know if he should continue. He began to doubt, up until he remembered his wife and son back home. He was doing this for them, for the debt he owed the church. If being a soldier paid that debt, then so be it. Eventually, killing became easier for him. He was fighting other soldiers, after all. He never took part in the killing of innocents, something that he didn’t know some of the others did. Eventually, even the greatest of swordsmen fall. Draiden’s death came from a sword from behind while deep in a fight, from who he assumed was another crusader. He felt betrayed, and if left his soul was sure to Hollow-fy. However, he was found by a Shinigami and sent to the Soul Society. When he arrived, he found the afterlife to be not as... heavenly as he was lead to believe. There was crime, suffering, and hate. Not what he expected of the perfect paradise. ‘This... this cannot be it. This is Heaven?’ He couldn’t believe it. He had always heard through the church that when you die, your soul would go to Heaven and be at eternal peace. And yet... this was anything but. The more time he spent here, the more he started to doubt. ‘Reincarnation? Balance between worlds? What is all this?’ He needed answers, and from what he gathered would get them from the Shinigami. So to the academy he went. For the time, they didn’t seem so primitive. Their style was amazing, reminding him of stories merchants told him of the lands in the east. And the walls, so smooth and made of a stone he wasn’t too familiar with. It wasn’t anything like the stone walls used in the forts he tended to occupy while living. When he arrived, he quickly became a student. Though out of practice for a bit, he quickly picked back up on his knowledge in swordplay and learned new techniques that he never would have learned while alive. It was amazing, this afterlife held so much potential to learn and grow! Why couldn’t the world below have such shared knowledge like they did here? That was another thing he learned, the various realms that were all connected via the World of the Living, as they called it. The Soul Society was one, the one he was in now. Hueco Mundo was another, the realm of Hollows, souls that went too long without being ferried over to the afterlife and lost their souls, devouring others to try and fill that void. And then there was Hell, a place he remembered hearing of even when he was alive. Maybe humans misinterpreted the spiritual world and it’s denizens? After all, he did also learn of the Soul King. Could he be God? Something felt wrong with that assumption though. If this Soul King was God, then why did he need the Shinigami to maintain this balance? Couldn’t he do so, with his omnipotent power? If there was a threat to the spiritual balance, couldn’t he remove it? It just didn’t add up to him. In his mind, he decided to believe God was just on a higher plane of being, unable to be seen even by the Shinigami. After all, there was a Hell, so there being a God and true Heaven couldn’t be wrong. Right? He would keep this belief to himself for now. He had a long time to ponder it. He took his time learning in the Academy, a whole 6 years. In that time he took note that while his muscle mass changed with his daily training, he didn’t really age. Were souls that much slower to age? How long could he possibly live before growing his first grey hair? More questions with little to no answer, because when he asked he was told it all differed on the soul based on their level of Spiritual Energy. The more one had, the slower they aged. While Draiden had quite a bit, he didn’t really expand upon it much in the academy. He didn’t do well with Kidou, believing it a dirty trick to use in what should be an honorable fight between warriors. He used his energy mostly for his sword swings, enhancing Spirit Pressure and for the Shinigami’s high-speed movement of Shunpo. The first time he used the technique gave him an incredible feeling. However he soon realized that he needed to master this ability, because it quickly left him drained. Training and studying went hand in hand, and when he fully awakened his Shinigami powers he was in for a surprise. A weight suddenly formed over him for armor formed over his body. It looked strikingly like his original suit as a living human, but now black to represent his new power. It was a welcome feeling, and something he used to help train to better enahnce his already superhuman endurance and stamina. Eventually, wearing the armor felt like nothing to him, and the time came to graduate. He ended up joining Squad Four, seeing as this squad would see him through countless battles. Side Notes:
