I was talking to Pallas the other day about our inactive staffers. I think we should devise I plan for what to do with staff members that go inactive.

My thoughts were, if that staff member hasn't done any staff work for a month, they are to be demoted. However, they CAN ask for their position back again if they come back and are active for another month. What does everyone think?

I honestly think that this would be a good idea. We would have to put it to a vote, but I think it would work. Also, if it seems like i'm not here, I'm sorry. I've been checking in and all that. I do try to do this at least once a day, but later in the day due to my work. I promise to try and be as active as possibe. I hope that is ok.

Well this suggestion just came at quite a bad time, since now I've got my finals after which I will be heading home for more than 2 months and won't be active in that time. Don't exactly know how long I will be at home, so can't exactly say if it's 2 months or less or possibly more. But, of coarse since I won't be active I won't deserve the staff member position then. So, if I'm demoted I'll understand and I'll continue as a regular member. You ain't getting rid of me that easy Razz

Perhaps if the member gives us a warning and estimated absent time, we can make exceptions. =] Thus has been the case with Eden and her surgeries, Pallas with her work, and me with my family. But others who give us little to no warning, or vaguely say "I'll be gone for I don't know how long", after a month they should be demoted, but granted status as staff again after a month's activity. What do you all think?

I will hold a staff poll for this.

Well I say yes to the demotion, if a staff member can't inform prior to their absence. Then they should be temporarily removed from their current position, which upon their return should be returned back to them if they're active as before and willing to stay, however, if they do not return. A poll should be made, in the public section, since staff members were actually chosen by the active members, it's only fitting that they vote them off of it, as a permanent change.

I would have to say that a mix of both Yuki's idea and Epizon's idea would be good. I would also suggest that the staff member not only leave a note in the staff section but also in the leave section as well. Also, we sould work to keep the staff list up to date so that we can ensure that everyone, staff and members, knows who is in what position. Make sure the left hand knows what the right hand is doing sort of thing. and Yes, i feel that we should put this to a staff vote.

Okay, so let me recollect everything for demoting inactive staff. However, I think voting people off of staff for inactivity might be a slight waste of time. Perhaps we should add these new standards for when people become/are picking staff, so they know if they go inactive, they will be demoted until their return. I know from experience that 'voting people off staff', when they haven't done something wrong, often seems a bit harsh. It should be done and everyone should know that they CAN get their position back.

Another reason it seems redundant, is because once a staffer has been inactive for a month, even if they are voted not to be demoted, it really doesn't do much good.

- The staff member must leave a notice in the staff section and leave section. If they give little or no warning, they could be demoted after a month's inactivity.
- The demoted staff member must prove activity for one month(or if you have any other time limit ideas) before getting his/her position back. This can be requested; they don't need to fill out a staff app as it was NOT a true 'forced leave'.

Am I missing anything?


Udarsha and I talked about updating the staff list in the sidebar, and I was going to make a new staff list thread. He says he'll get to the sidebar when he has time. However, if he doesn't soon I will have to do it, meaning my image and labeling style may be different from his. ^^;

Opinions on all of this? Mostly, I just think members voting off inactive staff is a bit redundant, as it isn't a forced leave and they aren't permanently losing their positions, only being removed from the staff lists/groups until they come back.

Being the only active staff, do we all agree?

I can set up a member poll so hopefully the members agree with it, but that is also a bit redundant. xD An inactive staffer is an inactive staffer. It's not going to effect the site or members drastically.
